Janet Dunbar was possibly the daughter of George Dunbar, 10th Earl of Dunbar and Beatrice (?).Mosley, Charles, editor. Burke's Peerage and Baronetage, 106th edition, 2 volumes. Crans, Switzerland: Burke's Peerage (Genealogical Books) Ltd, 1999. Volume 1, page 80. Her parentage is disputed by Scots PeerageThe Scots Peerage, Vol. I, edited by Sir James Balfour Paul, p. 236.
She married, firstly, Sir William Seton of Seton, son of Sir John Seton of Seton and Katherine Sinclair.
She married, secondly, Sir Adam Johnstone of that Ilk, son of Sir John Johnstone, after 1433. Children with Adam Johnstone, Patrick, Archibald, William, born before 1455.
Her married name became de Seton,1 then after 1433, her married name became Johnstone.
