== Biography ==James was born about 1504 second son to William Gordon of Shivas and his wife Janet Ogilvy,

James became laird of Cairnbanno about three miles north of his father's home of Shivas now known as Gight.
James married a daughter of Cheyne of Straloch which lies about 15 miles south of Cairnbanno

James Gordon had issue presumably by his Cheyne wife,
* George his heir and heir to Sir George Gordon of Shivas* Master William who drowned in the water of Boggie without succession Balbithan MSS

James is reputed in the Balbithan MSS to have had a natural son:
* John

James appears to have died before his elder brother Sir George Gordon of Shivas, James was described as brother german to Sir George Gordon of Shivas when his eldest surviving son George was served Heir Special to Sir George .
