== Biography ==
George was born about 1502 eldest son to William Gordon of Shivas and his wife Janet Ogilvy.
His father was killed at the Battle of Flodden in September 1513. While still a pupil George was granted sasine of the barony of Schivas in virtue of dispensation in favour of the heirs of those slain in the army of the late king James IV. The Exchequer Rolls of Scotland Vol.xiv 587.

At Edinburgh on 23 Aug 1536, Sir Walter Ogilvy de Dunlugus sold to James Gordon of Culquhodilstane, the lands of Fortre,with its mill and multures in the barony of Glendouaquliy, in the county of Banff. the principal witness was George Gordon of Shivas. Walter Barclay of that Ilk also was present. George Gordon married Elizabeth, daughter of Robert Gordon of Fetterletter.
They appear to have had a son:

George, having resigned into the king's hands his lands of Boquhanyochquy in the barony of Shivas, the King at Edinburgh on 11 Feb 1539/40 confirmed George Gordon of Shivas and Elizabeth Gordon his spouse in these lands to be held by George and Elizabeth and the longest liver of the two in conjumct infeftment and their heirs masculine. Mary of Guise the Dowager Queen of Scotland granted Protection in favour of George Gordon of Shivas and his lands and tenants an13 Aug 1546. At Stirling on 3 Sep 1546, George Gordon of Shivas witnessed the marriage contract of Robert Elphinstone and Margaret Drummond. George received knighthood about 1555.

In May, 1558, at Aberdeen Sheriff Court a case was heard over the debatable lands of Monkshill , the lands of Park and Tifty the parties in dispute were Sir George Gordon of Shivas proprietor of Monkshill, and William Forbes of Tolquhone and William Meldrum of Fyvie. Following upon a Precept of Sasine by George Lord Gordon dated 27 May 1559, Instrument of Sasine was given on 1 Jun 1559, to Sir George Gordon of Shivas, his cousin, and Elizabeth Gordon his wife, and the survivor of them in conjunct fee, and the heirs male begotten or to be begotten betwixt them, whom failing, said George's heirs male named Gordon whomsoever, of the lands of Monkshill called Kirklands of Fyvie, mill of Fyvie, brewhouse of Fyvie and lands of Ardlogy, lying in the barony of Fyvie, regality of Aberbrothock and sheriffdom of Aberdeen. On 12 Oct 1564. Sir George Gordon, and George Gordon, "younger" of Gight, and eighteen others were arraigned before the Privy Council for the "crewale invassion of William Con of Auchry and hurting and wounding of him in divers parts of his body to the great effusion of his blude ; and striking and draging with a brydill three of Con's cottars and otheris". On 5 Jan 1565/56 Sir George Gordon paid £48 for the sasine of the barony of Shivas which had been in the hands of the king for 51years and one term. Exchequer Rolls Vol. xix p.545
A Marriage Contract was entered into between Alexander Forbes of Thainstone and Janet Grant, sister of the Patrick Grant of Ballindalloch, dated at Turriff 25 June and registered in the Sheriff Court Books of Aberdeenshire 29 June both in 1565. On his side Forbes undertook to infeft his intended wife in Kirktoun of Kinnellar in liferent, which he did, the bride's brother, Patrick Grant, as principal, binding himself to pay to the bridegroom 800 merks. The cautioners for Patrick Grant were George Gordon of Shivas, James Gordon of Crichie, Patrick Grant of Davey and Mr. Wm. Grant in Tillibo. Patrick failed to pay the agreed tocher of 800 merks and it was not until many years later that an action was raised in the Sheriff Court of Aberdeenshire which produced a remarkable record of the genealogy of the the Gordon cautioners.Records of the Sheriff Court of Aberdeenshire Vol.ii p37 [https://archive.org/details/recordsofsheriff02aberuoft/page/36/mode/2up]
Many years after the death of Sir George Gordon and this James Gordon in the above mention contract of 1565 when they had acted as cautioners it was revisited at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on 5 May 1603. William Gordon of Gight as eldest son and representing John Gordon of Gight, who was heir or representative of George Gordon of Shivas, who was heir or representative of Sir George Gordon of Shivas, and George Gordon in Straloch sometime of Crichie as representing James Gordon of Crichie, his father. This shows the line going through the lairds of Shivas to Sir George's younger brother John Gordon of Gight and also that the James Gordon of Crichie in this case was not the brother of Sir George who also was James Gordon of Crichie as they held quarter portions of Crichie.
On 29 Nov 1565 Sir George Gordon was retoured heir to William Gordon of Shivas his father in the lands and barony of Shivas. Retours of Services of Heirs Aberdeen Retour 37 As a child he was retoured after his father's death at the Field of Flodden but this transaction probably was to confirm this as an adult.

At Huntly on 27 Jun 1568, Sir George Gordon of Shivas was principal witness to a Bond of Maintenance by George, Earl of Huntly, Lord Gordon and Badenoch, to his beloved friend and servitor, Lachlan McIntosch Dunachton, chief and principal of clan Chattan, in return for the Lachlan's herItable bond of manrent and service in terms of the contract made between them that day. Sir George died about 1574 survived by his spouse Elizabeth Gordon but no surving issue.
His nephew [[ Gordon-14735|George]] son of James Gordon brother german to Sir George was served heir to Sir George in the Barony of Shivas reserving liferent to Elizabeth Gordon the widow of Sir George.
