Elizabeth Gordon

( - 17 Apr 1500)

== Biography ==:Daughter of [[Seton-179|Alexander, 1st Earl of Huntly]].[[#BalfourPaul|Balfour Paul]]: [https://archive.org/details/scotspeeragefoun02paul/page/456 Vol 2, Page 457]
:Elizabeth was married firstly to [[Hay-987|Nicholas Hay, Earl of Errol]]. This was not the intention of the parents and it had previously been proposed that Nicholas Hay, heir to the titles of Erroll, marry Elizabeth's older sister, Margaret. Margaret must have died prior to the date of marriage and Nicholas married Elizabeth. There were to be no children from this marriage and the titles would pass to Nicholas' brother, William.
:However after Nicholas' death in 1470 Elizabeth remarried, to John, 2nd Lord Kennedy, an Ayrshire noble. The marriage took place before 30 Jun 1471. It seems likely that William, then an Ambassador for Peace with England had been retained in England as there is evidenceThe Records of the Parliaments of Scotland to 1707, K.M. Brown et al eds (St Andrews, 2007-2015), 1476/7/74 as an example. where Elizabeth continues to transact on the lands of Erroll as Countess.
:William is known to have returned before 1483 when he is confirmed in his titles and he marries Isabel Gordon, niece to Elizabeth, in 1485. Elizabeth, had been provided Cassillis and Dunure (Kennedy lands) for life and it can be presumed she died in one or the other, both these are in Ayrshire. She is believed to be buried at Cupar Abbey, Fife.
