=== Background Note ===Note that there are discrepancies between the two major source documents Historical records of the family of Leslie from 1067 to 1868-69. Collected from public records and authentic private sources#S-26 Leslie, Charles Joseph; Volume 1, pages 18 through 23 and The Scots peerage, founded on Wood's edition of Sir Robert Douglas's peerage of Scotland; containing an historical and genealogical account of the nobility of that kingdom.#S-5 Balfour Paul; Volume 6, page 268 through 271 This profile is based on both documents but, in the event of a genealogical clash of information, The Scots Peerage takes precedence, unless original source material proves otherwise.
Historical Biography
Andrew was born about 1300. He was son of Andrew Leslie and Mary Abernethy. She being one of the daughters and co-heiresses of Sir Alexander Abernethy, Lord of Abernethy, who died before the end of 1315. There is conjecture regarding his date of birth. There is no discussion in any source of the main estates being held in ward. This implies that Andrew must have been of age in 1324 and thus born about 1300. The family historian mentions that the date of marriage between his parents occurred in 1313#S-26 Leslie, Charles Joseph; Vol 1, page 17 but without reference and this is not discussed in Balfour Paul.
It is not known who he married nor are there any notices of him in the Public Record. He is thought to have died prior around 1355 and certainly prior to 1365 when his son appears on Charters.
He is reported to have had two children:#S-5 Balfour Paul; Volume 6, page 269
: Andrew Leslie, who succeeds him.: Margaret Leslie; who will marry David de Abercromby, and who had from his brother-in-law, Andrew Leslie, on 30 May 1391, a charter of the lands of Achquhorties and Blairdaff, co. Aberdeen.
