== Biography of William Borthwick ==: "William Borthwick, of Borthwick, who is stated, in the ancient Scottish chronicle before-mentioned, to have been made a lord of parliament by King James II, in a parliament held at Edinburgh, on 12 June 1452. At the same time three earls and several other barons were created. This William Borthwick was the 1st Lord Borthwick. The name of his wife has not been ascertained. He was the brother of Janet Borthwick, wife of James Douglas, Lord of Dalkeith, and Lord Borthwick appeared in parliament on 14 March, 1457-8, on behalf of his sister, in reference to the creation of the title of Earl of Morton. The date of the death of William, 1st Lord Borthwick, has not been ascertained.
