Individual Details
Isabel Stewart
(Abt 1378 - )
==Biography==Isobel was the daughter of Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany, Regent of Scotland by one of his wives. #S-1 Balfour Paul; Vol 1, page 149 The mother of Isobel is believed to have been Margaret Graham, his first wife, who died in 1380. She married in 1398 and thus was likely born about 1378.
First Family - Alexander Leslie
She married, firstly, Alexander Leslie, Earl of Ross, and in doing so strengthened the position of the Albany Stewarts in the key Earldom of Ross. The marriage appears to have taken place about the time he came into possession of Ross and in 1398. Balfour Paul states thus but quotes "The Historical Records of the Leslie" but that source is silent. It seems highly probable however that it was close to that year as unsuccessful attempts were made to marry their daughter, Euphemia, in 1415 and it could be presumed she was 16 at the time.
By Alexander Leslie she had one daughter:
* Euphemia Leslie; heiress to the Earldom of Ross. Likely born in 1399/1400 she is alive during the invasion of the Earldom by MacDonald, Lord of the Isles and his unsuccessful claim on behalf of his wife. She resigns her titles and becomes a nun in 1415 and is not heard of again on the record.
Second Family - Walter Haliburton
She married, about 1407, Walter Haliburton, of Dirleton, an estate in East Lothian. He was the eldest son of Sir John Haliburton of Dirleton and a supporter of the Albany Stewarts.
They had four sons and two daughters:
* John Haliburton, likely born about 1410, he would become 2nd Lord Haliburton of Dirleton.
* Walter Haliburton, who married Catherine Chisholm, daughter and co-heiress of Alexander de Chisholm.
* Robert Haliburton.
* William Haliburton.
* Jean Haliburton, who married Henry Sinclair, Earl of Orkney.
* Christian Haliburton, who married, about 1440, as his second wife, George Leslie, Earl of Rothes. This suggests she was born about 1420.The Scots Peerage; Balfour Paul; Vol 7, page 274
