John Stewart of Cardney and Arntullie, was the son of [[Stewart-1001|Robert II Stewart]] and his mistress, [[Cardny-1|Marion Cardny]], sister of Robert de Cardney, Bishop of Dunkeld.
Sir John Stewart, got charter of Airntully 1383 and Cardneys in 1399 ��� the ancestral lands of his mother's family. He was alive in 1425. He married Jean, daughter of Sir John Drummond of Stobhall and sister of Queen Annabella. He left issue a son, Walter Stewart of Cardneys.
He studied at Paris, and the expenses of his education appear in the Exchequer Rolls of the time, as paid to his uncle Robert of Cardney.
