DEATH: death cert. #224 Jackson Co, OR states birthplace as Baker Co, OR. Death Cert. has the name of his father as Nathenial Ritter (as given by Lulu Ritter).

BIOGRAPHY: According to John's death certificate, he was a "Wood Dealer" for 35 years. Lost both of his legs in a logging "accident". Cause of death a year later: certificate states "suicide", some immediate family suggest he was "helped"...mercy killing or...? It's also believed that a significant "transfer of ownership" of money and property took place shortly thereafter, followed by the death of his wife within two years.

It would seem that he did fairly well as a lumber broker:
14 May 1906: issued a land patent for 163 acres in Jackson Co, OR, which adjoined William Cook's 160 acres.

3 Dec 1908: issued a land patent for 160 acres in Jackson Co, OR.

15 Feb 1916: issued a mining claim on 20 acres known as the Prefountain Group mining claim situated in the Foots Creek Mining District of Jackson Co, OR.
