James Royston and Mary Elizabeth Prater had eight children. I'm assuming
Mary divorced James in about 1895/96...because she married 2nd, Wiley
Carmack in 1896, in Claiborne Co TN. After they divorced...four of their
children stayed with James, and used his surname, Royston, Benjamin
Franklin, Arthur, Theophalus, and Mary L Royston. The other four children
stayed with Mary, and adopted her surname, Prater, James, Bird, Charles
and Dallard Prater...andused it until their death. Why? No one seems to
know the reason.
