Elijah went to live with his Uncle William Prater at about the age of 15. In 1832 Sarah gave permission for her son Elijah Prater to marry Jemima Patrick.

It has been handed down in the family that her first son, Elijah was born out of wedlock. He was said to be the son of David Picklesimer, who did not marry Sally until much later in his life, and when Elijah was about 5 years old. Elijah married Jemima Patrick on Sept 15, 1832 in Floyd Co, KY. Their children were Edna, Mary, Alsy, Nancy, Sarah, Rhoda, and Hugh H. Elijah is in 1860 census of Madison County, AR Hilburn Twp #230. He also is in 1880 Hilburn Twp #225. He apparently died in Madison Co, AR. Hugh H Prater was born April 7, 1856 and died March 23, 1920 in Madison Co, AR. Hugh marr Ellen Bivens and had one son, Samuel W. Prater, born Jan 30, 1877 in St Paul, Madison Co, AR. Died Dec 23, 1911 at Combs, Madison Co, AR.
