Mary Alice MOORE

(10 Nov 1854 - 11 Sep 1936)

The 1900 Mingus, Palo Pinto County, TX census indicates that MaryAlice (Moore) and David B. Wells had been married for 26 years, and further that she had borne 8 children, with the number of children living shown as 5.

The seven children that my Aunt lists are: Charles, Willie, John Albert, Jenny, Mary Alice, Frances M. and Walter. She does not list David Herbert Wells b. ca 1882 as one of the children, and yet she sent me photos of him with Fanny Wells, and her sister mentioned going to visit Uncle Herb in OK in the early 1940s. Also not listed in her charting is Albert B., or Fred. I guess any of these could be the "8th" child as shown in the census, though I believe David Herbert is the 8th, especially with his date of birth. Somehow, the older children Fred, and Albert B. are either from a previous marriage of David's OR relatives children. It is a continuing mystery.
Photos available.

From Lynn Perkins RE: David Herbert MOORE, was b. 1815 in or near Edgefield SC. He had two older sisters, Avarilla and Lydia, the first b. 1803. He was the son of Jospeh Iddings MOORE and Jane (unknown). Joseph Iddings Moore was b. ca 1778 in Wrightsborough, a Quaker settlement in Georgia. Perhaps Joseph Iddings Moore was connected to a DAVID HERBERT something? father-in-law? We don't know the maiden name of Jane. Could the maternal grandpa been named David Herbert Wells? or just David HERBERT? I don't believe I have ever looked for a David HERBERT in SC or GA. Good work on your part.

You see how my mind works. I will have to do some checking near Wrightsborough and Edgefield dist. SC to see if there are any David Herbert's "anything" somewhere near where Jane and Joseph Iddings Moore would have been when they married ca 1802-1803. I will let you know the results. This type of checking takes time but I save all messages to refer to later. You do some checking from your end and see if you can find the source of the name David Herbert.

In about 1806 the last remaining Quaker families immigrated to Ohio because of slavery. My MOORE line was among the founding families of this Quaker settlement ca 1769.

There are actually 3 David Herbert Moore in my line. The first b. 1815 was an Uncle, the second b. 1863 a nephew, and the third the son of the nephew. I don't see any connection between the latter two. However the orgin of the name DAVID HERBERT might trace back to those Wrightsborugh families who moved to Ohio ca 1806. Some of my MOORE line did end up in Ohio. The ones that I do know went, I can see no connection. I am sure there were some connected to my MOORE line that I have not ran across. I have one Mary MOORE who m. William Lacey, he died and she remarried and went to Ohio ca 1806. I don't have a list of the Quaker families who removed to Ohio because my MOORE line was "dismissed" for bearing arms in the Rev. War in GA, stayed in GA and migrated to AL and TX. Very interesting concept worth checking.
