John Hunt PRATHER

(Abt 1735 - 13 Jan 1814)

John went west from Rowan Co., N.C. where he was married to Eleanor Turner. It is thought that he went west to look for land and at the same time visit his sister who had married a officer who had been stationed at Ft. Harrod, Kentucky Parish, W.VA. (later became the state of KY.) John stayed (or returned and settled) in what is now Madison Co., KY. He is listed as a member of the first Grand Jury held in Madison Co. He is also named a one of the Commissioners who laid out the city plan for the city of Somerset, KY. He also was involved in laying out the plans for several other citys in that part of KY.
