Individual Details
Cimburgis (Cimburka) of Masovia
(Abt 1394 - 28 Sep 1429)
Cimburka was born between 1394 and 1397, the daughter of Ziemowit IV, duke of Masovia, and Alexandra of Lithuania. In 1412 when Cimburka was between 15 and 18 she married Ernst I, duke of Austria and Styria, the third son of Leopold III, duke of Austria, and Viridis (Verde) Visconti. They had nine children of whom two daughters and their son Friedrich, the future Emperor Friedrich III, would have progeny.
It was said that Cimburka was so strong she could hammer a nail into a board with her bare hands.
The deformity of the lower jaw and lip, known as 'the Habsburg jaw', was introduced into the Habsburg family by the apparently indestructible genes of Cimburka, who was nevertheless said to be a great beauty. She died at Türnitz in Lower Austria on 28 September 1429.
