(21 Jun 1917 - 5 Dec 2011)
Bluemont, VA – Marjorie Banks Fuller, 94, formerly of Lincoln, IL and Bloomington, IL, died Monday, December 5th, 2011, at 5:40 a.m. in Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, VA.
Her example of living, giving and many life lessons will be long remembered by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. In the last year of her life, she was able to enjoy the company of many of them by moving to her daughter's home in Virginia.
She was born June 21, 1917, at Kirkland, Illinois to Gerson Levi and Hattie Bressler Banks.
Marge graduated in three and a half years from the University of Illinois, with a degree in sociology in 1939. She was honored with the University's Bronze Tablet award, given in recognition of high scholarship. She was a member of the University of Illinois Alumni Association, an avid Illini fan, and hoped to see Chief Illiniwek restored as a proud symbol of the school.
She married Kenneth Eugene Fuller on March 5, 1939, in Champaign, IL. With her husband, Marge co-owned and operated the Fuller Seed Company in Lincoln from 1940 to 1985, where she did everything from driving seed corn detasseling machines to keeping the books. Mr. Fuller died on March 19, 2005.
She had been a long-time member of the First United Methodist Churches in Lincoln, IL and Normal, IL. She was especially active in the Lincoln church, leading adult Sunday school for many years. At the time of her passing, Marge was one of the newest members of the First United Methodist Church in Bluemont, VA.
Marge was an energetic Girl Scout leader in the 1950's. She was a delegate to a White House National Conference On Education in 1958. She became the first woman ever elected to the school board in Lincoln. One of her proudest accomplishments was helping to found and serving on the board of the Lincoln Oasis Senior Center. Many senior audiences in many venues enjoyed her piano playing all the way to her final days at the Purcellville Carver Center.
Marge is survived by: two daughters, Rev. Mary Ruth (and Gary) Myers of Bluemont, VA., and Jo Ann (and Dan) Duncan of Bloomington, IL; one son, John (and Marian) Fuller of Fort Myers, FL; five grandchildren, Marilyn Humphrey, Brad Myers, Leigh Johnson, Christopher Fuller and Randal Lohrenz; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Two sons, Kenson Fuller and George Fuller preceded her in death.
A private family service will be at a later date in Illinois. Immediate arrangements are being handled by Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, VA.
