Robert Frederick Crider, 98, formerly of 9 Lakewood Court, Chambersburg, PA, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2010 in Penn Hall Nursing Center. Born March 18, 1912 near Guilford Springs, Franklin County, PA, he was a son of the late Frederick T. and Florence Hock Crider. Mr. Crider attended the former Chambersburg High School. Early in his life he farmed with his father on the family farm for several years and was then employed as a salesman with the former M&H Chevrolet in Chambersburg. From 1943 until 1977 he was employed in the real estate department at Farmer's and Merchant's Bank. During the 1950's he developed Hillside Heights near Fayetteville, PA. Following his employment with the bank, he owned and operated Robert F. Crider Real Estate in downtown Chambersburg for a number of years until his retirement. He was the last living Charter Member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Chambersburg where he served in numerous capacities during his lifetime. Mr. Crider was a sixty year member of the Chambersburg Kiwanis Club and was a former member and Past President of the Chambersburg Chamber of Commerce. His beloved wife, Anna Wadel Crider, whom he married June 4, 1935, preceded him in death on May 13, 2001.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his daughter, Joan C. Gindlesperger of Chambersburg; his son, R. Frederick Crider, Jr. and wife Diane of Timonium, MD; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold L. Crider in 1999, and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Park Avenue United Methodist Church, Chambersburg, PA. Rev. Mark Woodring and Chaplain Ray Geigley will officiate. Interment will follow in Norland Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 6:00-9:00 PM Friday at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA, and from 9:00-10:00 AM Saturday at the church.
