OBITUARY :
JOHN L. SHINDLEDECKER, SR., 78, of 701 Old Waynesboro Road, Fairfield, died Thursday morning, July 11, at his home.
He was the husband of Mary Fickes Shindledecker to whom he was wed for 53 years.
Born in Charmain, he was the son of the late John W. and Elizabeth Kint Shindledecker.
Mr. Shindledecker was a member of Mount Calvary United Methodist Church. He had been employed at the GAF Co. in Charmian for several years. He also had been employed as a firefighter with the U.S. Government at Fort Richey, Md., for 23 years retiring in 1974.
He was a life member of the Fountaindale Volunteer Fire Co. He also was a member of Adams County Volunteer Firemen's Association, the Blue Ridge Sportsmen's Association and AARP.
He is survived by a son, John L. (Jack) Shindledecker, Jr. of Fairfield; four brothers, Charles Shindledecker of Fairfield, Lawrence Shindledecker, Maurice Shindledecker and George Shindledecker, all of Blue Ridge Summit; and two sisters, Lillian Shulley of Blue Ridge Summit and Margaret Weyrich of Randolph, Neb.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Monahan Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Eugene M. Cline and the Rev. Richard K. Hagee officiating. Interment will be in the Fountaindale Union Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Monahan Funeral Home in Fairfield Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Mount Calvary United Methodist Church, 1061 Mount Carmel Road, Orrtanna, Pa., or the Adams County Hospice, 1075 Old Harrisburg Road, Gettysburg.
