Norma Pauline Wright

Norma was one of three daughters, born to Verna Leitzell, and is survived by her two younger sisters, Patricia Wright Radke and Vivian Wright Kalember.
Norma attended Proviso East High school and later graduated from the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN in 1946, where she earned her nursing degree. Norma met her future husband, John B Gunnell at the Commonwealth Edison Company, where she was first employed as a company nurse.
Norma and John were married on Sept. 4, 1948 and raised eight children. John passed away in 2010. Norma's professional career as a registered nurse was highlighted while working at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, IL. Norma loved the fast paced, stressful but always rewarding work in the emergency room as a trauma nurse.
Norma loved to travel and used her professional background to visit other hospitals to learn how they operated in Russia, China, Spain, Australia and New Zealand. Norma and John retired to Bonita Springs, FL, where Norma remained active.
Norma and John returned to Illinois in 2004 to be close to their children where they remained until their passing.
In addition to Norma's two sisters, she is survived by son, Peter and wife Debbie Gunnell; daughter, Janet and husband, Robert Lumsden; son, Philip and wife, Diana Gunnell; daughter, Marie and husband, Tony Buccellato; son, James and wife, Patricia Gunnell, son David Gunnell and son Daniel Gunnell; son, John Norman Gunnell preceded her in death earlier this year.
Her life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service conducted at St John The Baptist Catholic Church, Winfield, IL at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011
