JOHN BURGES GUNNELLObituary |  CondolencesJohn Burges Gunnell, age 87, of Plainfield, IL died Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at his residence. He was born July 3, 1923 in Oak Park, IL the son of the late George and Olive nee Miller Gunnell. John served his country honorably with the US Army during World War II with the 149th Armd SIg Co during the Battle of Normandy. Prior to his retirement in 1982 he was employed by ComEd for 30+ years rising to the responsibility of V.P. of Underground and Construcation for the Maywood/Chicagoland areas. He is survived by his wife, of 61 years, Norma Wright; two daughters, Marie (Tony) Gunnell of Escondido, CA, Janet (Dr Robert) Lumsdew of Little Rock, AR; six sons Peter (Debbie) of Mountain Home, AR, Philip (Diana) of Plainfield, IL, Jim (Patricia) of Chicago, IL, John of Charleston, IL, Dave and Dand (Carol) both of Aurora, IL; 15 grandchildren; a great grandson; and a sister Olive Ruthardt of Albaquerque NM. Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 18, 2010 from 1 to 5 PM at the DUNN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME with CREMATORY at 1801 South Douglas Road in Oswego, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St John the Baptist Church in Winfield, IL at 10 AM on Monday, July 19, 2010. Burial will take place at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield, IL.
