Relatives in this city have received a telegram announcing the death of Ben E. Gunnell, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Gunnell of Arlington, NJ, who was killed in action in France July 28.
The young man was born in Oshkosh and was twenty-four years of age. He enlisted soon after the war broke out, being assigned to the 69th New York regiment, which is a part of the famous Rainbow division. In letters to Oshkosh relatives, written recently, the young man spoke in glowing terms of the Wisconsin soldiers and referred particularly to the 150th machine gun company, an Oshkosh organization. He said Wisconsin might be proud of such men. The mother of the young man was a daughter of the late L. O. Rumery and is a sister of Lyman O. Rumery, Miss Carrie Rumery and Mrs. C. A. Wakeman, all of this city.
