OBITUARY :
THOMAS REID CARBAUGH, 83, of 7635 Charlestown Road, Mercersburg, died at 3:03 p m Tuesday, April 16, 2002, in his home. He had been in failing health since January.
Born March 10, 1919, in Fulton County, he was the son of the late Thomas H. and Nellie (Crider) Carbaugh.
He and his wife, Mabel E. (Hill) Carbaugh, were married Aug. 31, 1939, in Clear Spring, Md. Mrs. Carbaugh died Aug. 12, 1988.
Mr. Carbaugh farmed most of his life. He also was employed by Fairchild Hiller Corp., Hagerstown.
He later worked as a carpenter at DeRose Industries, Chambersburg. Following his retirement from farming, he did carpentry work for the late James Clayton.
He was a member of Clayton Memorial Church of God, Mercersburg.
He enjoyed woodworking and overhauling tractors.
Mr. Carbaugh is survived by two daughters, Lorraine A. Baer of Greencastle and Delores R. Keefer of Mercersburg; one son, Tommie R. Carbaugh of Mercersburg; two brothers, Linn A. Carbaugh and Roy E. Carbaugh, both of Mercersburg; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Crouse, on July 31, 1965; and a brother, J. Merle Carbaugh, on Oct 25,1997.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., Mercersburg, with the Revs. Floyd E. Myers and Marcus E. Tanner officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening and one hour prior to the services Friday in the funeral home.
