James H. Shives Jr.
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - James H. Shives Jr., 72, of 9729 Circle Drive, died Wednesday, Aug. 5, 1998, at ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg.
Born Sept. 29, 1925, in Sylvan, Pa., he was the son of the late James H. Shives Sr. and Lola Blanche Stahl Shives.
He had retired from Letterkenny Army Depot after 35 years.
A U.S. Army veteran, he served in World War II.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Fort Loudon, Pa., a former consistory member and former Sunday school superintendent.
He was a member of Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post 612 of St. Thomas, Pa.
He raised horses and goats.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosaline Williamson Shives; two sons, Gary L. Shives of Chambersburg and Ronnie J. Shives of St. Thomas; three sisters, Alice Eshelman of St. Thomas, Laura McKinney of West Grove, Pa., and Rebecca Sowers of Mercersburg, Pa.; one brother, Paul Shives of Sharpsburg; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ in Fort Loudon. The Rev. E. Loy Garber will officiate. Burial will be in Stenger Hill Cemetery in Fort Loudon. Military graveside services will be conducted by Detrich-Brechbill American Legion Post 612 Honor Guard.
Viewing will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave. in Mercersburg, Pa., and Saturday one hour prior to services at the church.
