In 1945 Millicent won the competitive Senatorial Scholarship for Cecil County to Western Maryland College, from which she graduated in 1949. She taught mathematics and science at North East High School for two years and then accepted employment with the Department of Defense as mathematician in the Ballistic Research Laboratory at Abderdeen Proving Ground.
