From early childhood, Mary's greatest interests in life were singing and working in the church. After marriage, Mercedes and her husband, Norval HILLYARD, lived in a mill house in Providence, MD. where their two children were born. Mercedes was active in the Rock Presbyterian Church. In 1933, the family purchased a home near Providence Corner where they resided until Norval died. Mercedes conyinued living in the family home until August of 1981, when ill health caused her move to Oxford Manor, a Presbyterian retirement home at Oxford, PA. Mercedes was a member of the Eastern Star.
