JOHN FOUSE, son of Nicholas and Margaret (Brumbaugh) Fouse, was born November 12, 1794. On March 12, 1817, he married Christina Miller, a sister of his brother Jacob's wife, Elizabeth Miller, and daughter of Abraham and Sibilla (Lowry) Miller; she was born March 17, 1801. Soon after their marriage, they also (along with his brother Jacob) emigrated to Ohio. They began housekeeping in the original log house, erected by her brother Abraham Miller on the Miller homestead, where they lived nearly one year. During this time, Mr. Fouse selected part of Southeast Quarter, Section 9, Lake Township 12, Range 8, Stark County, Ohio. He entered his claim, and a patent was granted to him on the eighth day of October, 1818, signed by President Monroe,and Josiah Meigs, Commissioner-General Land Office, for 160 acres (see Plate 9). He then erected a small log house and removed there that fall. They were among the pioneer settlers, and lived twelve miles north of Canton. They were members of the Reformed Church at Uniontown, Ohio (Plate 5).
They had four children:
(1) Nicholas, born January 1818 and died young
(2) Priscilla, born March 1819 and died in 1827
(3) Savilla, born September 1820, and married to Isaac Madlem
(4) Frederick, born March 1825 and died January 13, 1884. He was married to Elizabeth Gaerte.
