Death

Jacob Jay "Jay" BOWMAN, 88, of the Bridgewater Retirement Community died Thursday morning, September 22, 2005, in the Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Until he moved to the Bridgewater Retirement Community in June 2004, he had lived his entire life in the Mill Creek Church area.
He was born March 2, 1917, in the Mill Creek Church Community and was a son of the late Thomas Isaac and Maggie Rodeffer BOWMAN.
He was a member of the Mill Creek Church of the Brethren. He was a farmer and was employed by Merck & Co. for thirty-five years before he retired. He was a 1935 graduate of Port Republic High School.
On April 6, 1939, he married the former Marie MUNDY who survives.
Also surviving are: three sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Kenneth Darrell and Nancy Miller BOWMAN of Waynesboro, Thomas Harrison BOWMAN of Port Republic, and Dr. Bruce Mundy and Nancy Shifflett BOWMAN of Waynesboro; one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara BOWMAN and Hammy WRENN of Mount Crawford; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Dawn BOWMAN and Steve Michael of Port Republic, Shelia BOWMAN of Mount Crawford, Brian Kenneth and Cindy BOWMAN of Berryville, Darrell Scott and Karen BOWMAN of Spencerville, Indiana, Corri WRENN and Josh COLLINS of Mount Crawford, Jayme Gray WRENN of Mount Crawford, Margaret Ashley BOWMAN of Waynesboro and Samuel Jacob BOWMAN of Waynesboro; seven great-grandchildren, Steven Thomas MICHAEL of Port Republic, Alissa Dawn MICHAEL of Port Republic, Caitlyn Bowman ARMENTROUT of Mount Crawford, Ethan Hunter ARMENTROUT of Mount Crawford, Jacob Daniel BOWMAN of Spencerville, Indiana, Amanda Nicole BOWMAN of Spencerville, Indiana, and Grace Alana BOWMAN of Berryville; one sister, Hallie Bowman PENCE of Bridgewater. He was preceded in death by: two sisters, Lera Bowman JARRELS and Meda Bowman EARLY; one brother, Loy Lee BOWMAN.
Memorial services will be conducted in the Mill Creek Church of the Brethren near Port Republic on Sunday evening at 6:00 o’clock by the Reverends A. Lee Kinsey and Jimmy Ross. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends in the church social hall following the memorial service. Friends may also call at Kyger-Pence Funeral Service in McGaheysville at anytime.
