William DAVIS b. 1756 son of Thomas and Mary DAVIS who came from England in 1769 and settled in Bedford Co., PA, enlisted in the Continental Army on 3/2/1777 at Fredericktown, MD and served as a private in Capt. STULL's Company, Colonel GUNLY's 7th Regiment and was discharged 3/2/1780 at Norristown, NJ. He was in the battles on Princeton, Brandywine & Monmouth. On 9/11/1819 he applied for a pension which was granted under Application #S34731. At the time he applied he was residing in Bedford Co., PA and was listed as age 62. He stated at that time that his wife (Polly) was about 59 (b. 1761) and that he had 3 married sons. In 9/1830 he asked that his pension be paid from Baltimore, MD as he had moved from PA to MD (Alleghany Co., most likely Cumberland, MD). The General Accounting Office made the last payment of pension for 9/4/1842 to 3/4/1843 at Baltimore to O.P. HAUSE, attorney for pensioner. He apparently moved back to PA as on 3/6/1843 he certified that he had resided in Alleghany Co., MD for 3 years and prior thereto he had lived in Bedford Co., PA. If this information matches an ancestor of yours, please contact me, William was my gr-gr-gr-gr-grandfather. SD74114@aol.com
