Rodney Lee TATE

Rodney became the first PIAA Pennsylvania State wrestling champion from Mifflin County on March 20, 1971 at Penn State's Recreation Hall in the 127 pound weight class when he pinned John Fritz from Bethlehem Liberty with 56 seconds elapsed in the third period. Rod was wrestling for Penn Highlands High School and ended the season at 20-0-1. Fritz was 22-0 going into the match. Fritz became a national champ while wrestling for Penn State and later became the coach of the Penn State team.
