Catharine was born to George Ostertag Easterday and Margaret Bowers in Maryland, shortly after it's induction to the United States. Her family moved to the Bedford County, Pennsylvania area just before she was born. We're assuming that her parents were home in Maryland visiting George's family when she was born. She had four brothers, who were born in Maryland and Pennsylvania. A cousin, Samuel Easterday, moved to the Dekalb Co., Indiana area and is also found in the 1840 Census living a few miles away from her and John's homestead.
