John A. KRONTZ

Note the spelling change of Krantz. Here forward, Krontz has been used. John was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania to Joseph Krantz and ?. Joseph's dad immigrated from Wuerttenberg, Germany to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he became a U.S. Citizen, met ? and had several children, mostly boys. John's family moved to Ohio when he was very young. Three of his brothers were Jacob, Phillip and Henry Krontz.

The 1840 Census from Ohio, Holmes County, Prairie Township, Page 228, had John Krontz as having one boy under age 5, two boys between the ages of 5 & 10, Himself (in between the ages of 40 & 50), one daughter under age 5 and his wife, in between 30 & 40 years old.

The 1850 Census from Indiana, DeKalb County, Wilmington Township, Page 260, had John Krontz as 49 years old and being born in Pennsylvania. Catharine was 40, born in MA (not sure if this was Massachusetts or Maryland at that time); Aaron was 18, listed as a laborer and born in Ohio; Michael was 16, listed as a farmer and born in Ohio; Anna was 14 and born in Ohio; Ezra was 10 and born in Ohio; William was 6 and born in Indiana; Margaret was 5 and born in Indiana; and John A. was 6 months, born in Indiana.
