Notes
Death
GEORGE BOWLBY DECEASED 23 OCTOBER 1772
Among the loose papers tucked in the pages of the docket of "Joseph Kitchell ... One of his Magesty's Justices," on file at the New Jersey State Archives, is a memorandum concerning a debt which ends with the notation: "George Bowlby Deseased ye 23 of october ye 1772 and this a bouve menchened debt ware before his Deceas."
Justice Kitchell, whose docket covers the years 1773-1776, was from Hanover Township, Morris County, as was George Bowlby, whose 27 April 1773 will was probated on 30 October 1773. -- FRED SISSER III
His will was proved 19 Nov 1773.
Raymond Edwin Bowlby writes:
He came to Burlington, West New Jersey, in 1727 with his father and two brothers, John and Richard. He was 20 years old when his father died in Burlington, and his father's will of 1731 left him a bequest of 300 acres of land near Whippany, to be added to 200 acres he had previously inherited from his maternal grandfather, Samuel Barker.
