R.S.BOWLBY, ONCE DOVER SCHOOL SUPT.
DOVER-Roswell S. Bowlby 76, former superintendent of schools here died yesterday (Oct 17, 1957) at the home of his daughter in Schenectady, NY. after a long illness.
Mr. Bowlby is survived by his widow, Carrie, at home, his daughter Anna and a son, Clark. Funeral arrangements are being made at the funeral home, 1 Baker Ave., here.
He is a descendent of the Bowlby family for which the community of Bowlbyville was named. Bowlbyville was incorporated into Dover in 1936.
A Dover HS graduate of 1897, he attended New York Univ. and taught in Morristown before coming to Dover as a teacher.
He served as a science, chemistry and physics teacher at Dover H.S. and became school superintendent in 1920 and served in that capacity until June 30, 1944.
In his earlier teaching days he also taught in Clifton H.S. and in Long Valley and Lyonsville elementary schools.
After his retirement as school superintendent here, he moved to Rock Hill, S.C., with his wife and only recently moved to Schnectady.
