Death
LONGFELLOW - Lester A. Spearing, 74, of Longfellow, died at 8:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at his home following an extended illness. Born Sept. 22, 1926, in Bedford County, he was the son of the late James and Marguerite (Lear) Spearing. His wife, Dorothy A. (Miller) Spearing, whom he married Nov. 1, 1952, survives. Also surviving are: children, Mrs. Edward (Vicki) Kauffman, Yeagertown, Edward Spearing, Williamsport, and Mrs. Greg (Lynn) Walters, McVeytown; brothers and sisters, John Hershal Spearing, Marie Houser, Edith Laughlin, Mrs. Dale (Joyce) Wray, and Kenneth Spearing, all of Lewistown; Thomas Spearing, Reedsville, James Spearing, New Bloomfield, Charles Spearing, Harrisburg, and Robert Spearing, Millmont; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy P. Spearing in September 1988. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Philippines. He retired from the American Viscose Corporation in 1972 with 25 years of service. He was a member of the Juniata Terrace Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, and more recently attended the Pine Glen Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. In his early years, he enjoyed painting and drawing. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Richard J. Bender officiating. Interment will be in Pine Glen Cemetery. Family will receive friends 10 a.m. until the time of the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
