Darryl Carter: Ship wrecked off New Zealand coast about 1838, captured by Maoris but escaped. Picked up by Captain L'Anglios the same captain that purchased Bank's Peninsula from the Maoris and organised a French settlement there. Emigrated to New Zealand between 1835 and 1843. Occupation - was employed before 1840 on Whaling ships, then between 1845 and 1856 a Sawyer. After that on 1st of April 1871 started as postmaster Ohariu Valley, Wellington, New Zealand Had a residence in 3rd River, Wellington between 1845 and 1856. He then moves on to a freehold section (25 Acres plus house) in the Ohariu Valley in 1875, 1876, and 1879.
