Death

Was Accidentally shot by her brothers. Daily Southern Cross Thursday 12 may 1864. The importance of keeping firearms out of the reach of children is shown in the following paragraph from the Wellington Advertiser of April 30th. On Thursday afternoon a boy named Charles Wiley, living with his parents in Ohariu Valley, left his loaded gun with a cap in the house. A younger brother 7 to 8 yrs old took it up, and playing with it, unfortunately shot his sister through the head. Dr Knox was sent for and was promptly in attendance, but she expired before he left the house. The child was an only girl in a large family, and younger than the brother that shot her.
