Elmer died from a pistol shot through the stomach and liver by an unknown
assailant. He was quareling with someone at a dance at Lovejoy and shot later
on the porch at the home of James Wilson as Susan Wilson and her daughter
were talking to Elmer. He was shot in October of 1891 and died in February of
