Mary arrived in Oregon about 1887 with her parents. Mary brought her three
girls with her but left the boys with relatives. To support herself, she did
cooking and housework and at one time worked for the Chemawa Indian School in
Salem, Oregon. After her daughters were married, she moved to Portland and
lived with Ione until she died after breaking her hip in a fall. It is said
that she was quite 'prim and proper' and would walk miles to church.
