James enlisted in the Civil War in Missouri's 47th Infantry on August 15,1864
at the age of 16. He fought in the great battle of Pilot Knob. He was
honorably discharged by William S Hallock on March 29, 1865. He was ordained
as a minister on September 7, 1889.
