George Washington McLard

George died as a prisoner of the Civil War in Arkansas. He was supposed to
have died at Camp Salado. "This company was engaged in the late scout under
command of Col. Porter. Started from Pocahontas, Ark., on the 1st of Jan 1863
& after a march of nearly a week reached Hartsville, Mo., & returned to
Hartsville on 11th inst., where we engaged a superior force of Federal troops
with some success. The night following battle commenced our retreat from
Missouri, & after a continuous march of about 10 days, during which it snowed
