Individual Details
(1656 - 1728)
After his father, Aymes, was lost at sea, Ann Bruen Glidewell and her son moved to Windsor, Connecticut to live with an uncle, Obidiah Bruen. Four or five years later, Bruen sold his land and moved to New Jersey. Ann died about this time. Daniel moved to New Jersey with Obidiah Bruen. When Daniel was 12, he shipped as a cabin boy on a sailing merchant ship. He continued at sea for two decades until he was broken by the hard life. In about 1690, as a broken old man at 35, Daniel retired to land in the Isle of Wight County in Virginia. There he met Susan (Bernard) Thomas, a widow, whom he married. Daniel and his family moved to Bristol Parish, Virginia. There he lived until his death in 1728. He had become stricken with paralysis, had lost his wife, and had become a ward of the Parish.
