Served as a private in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. He was a farmer, 5'8" tall, blue eyes, light hair and fair complexion. Enlisted on March 10, 1862 in Cummings, Georgia for three years in Company E, 43'rd Regiment, Georgia Infantry Volunteers, Forsyth County GA Kellogs Rifles, Company Musician. Served in Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi. Was transferred to the field band on July 1, 1862 and was wounded at the seige of Vicksburg, Mississippi and died on July 9, 1863.

Widows pension application was filed on November 9, 1863 in Cobb County, Georgia.
