Ransom Foster WINGO
(18 Dec 1845 - 26 Jul 1910)
Joined the Confederate Army as a private on 10/19/1861 in Lightwood Knot Springs, South Carolina by Adjt. J. C. Calhoun for the term of the war. His unit was Company C. 13'th Regiment, South Carolina Infantry. He served in Virginia, Pennsylvania and Maryland. He was captured after the Battle of Gettysburg, PA on 7/14/1863 while fighting a rear guard action at Falling Waters, MD as General Lee's Army of Northern Virginia crossed the Potomac River.
He was a prisoner of war at Point Lookout, MD until 1/25/1864 when he took an oath of allegiance and joined the U. S. Service and was posted in the West for service against the hostile indians in the Dakota Territory. Ransom began service at Fort Rice, Dakota Territory on 10/17/1864 in Company B, 1'st Regiment U.S. Volunter Infantry/mounted, fighting the Sioux Indians. He was mustered out on 11/27/1865 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
