Served as a private in the Confederate Army in the Civil War. Enlisted on August 31, 1861 in Hardin County, Tennesse under Captain George W. Cambell's Company, Colonel Maney's regiment, Tennessee Volunteer Infantry. This unit was consolidated on May 9, 1861 and became Company G, 1'st (Fields) Regiment, Tennesse Infantry. Served in operations on Cheat Mountain, West Virginia, September 11-17, 1861, Cheat Mountain Pass, September 12, 1861, operations in the Valley District and against Romney, West Virginia on November 4, 1861. Killed in action near Romney, West Virginia on November 22, 1861.
