Volunteered for duty in the Confederate Army on 10/15/1861 at Haley's Store in Hart County, Georgia under Captain J. C. Thornton. William was a 4'th Sergeant in the 38'th Regiment, Company F, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Evans Brigade, Gordon's Division, Wright's Legion, Army of Northern Virginia.
Feeling he might not return he left a will. He was right as he died of typhoid fever at the Belmont Hospital while serving in Civil War. His gravesite was marked by his gggranddaughter Sharon Brown Miller.
William had purchased 150 acres from his father. This was left to his wife and son. His wife retained the land but returned to the household of her father. After she died her son William remained in the Teasley home although his grandfather Brown was his legal guardian.
