Notes
Historical Note
As the war between the North and the South drew near, Abigail (BOND) STANBROUGH moved her family to Grundy County, IA."Although the Westfield Meeting was opposed to slavery, they were more opposed to war. They were a peace-loving group that did not want to see their husbands and sons fighting and killing in the upcoming war. People in the community began to think of leaving. Iowa was nearby with cheap land that was said to be fertile, but best of all it was not involved in the North-South conflict. The state was more middle of the road without the extremists shouting for war."
