William E. GLOVER was drafted on 20 Sep 1864 at Richmond, Wayne, IN for one year. He was mustered out with his detachment on 20 Jun 1865 at Nashville, Davidson, TN.According to "The Civil War Day by Day: An Illustrated Almanac of America's Bloodiest War," Company H of the 9th Indiana Volunteers were involved in the battle campaigns of Franklin and Nashville, Tennessee that began in late September 1864 and drew to a conclusion by the end of December 1864.
"The retreat of the Confederates back over the Tennessee River both symbolically and effectively brings to an end General John Bell Hood's bold plan to take his army all the way to the Ohio River."
Burial
Cherry Grove Cemetery is located in Washington Township, southwest of Lynn, Randolph, Indiana, on 50E just south of 875S. William's grave site is south and west of the storage shed about four rows. His wife, Ruth Ann (FRANKLIN) GLOVER is buried with him. The stone is gray, slender with a sloping top. Next to his grave to the right, as you read the names, is the grave of Emma J. (GLOVER) WRIGHT and her husband, Assa F. WRIGHT.Cherry Grove Quaker Cemetery is located southwest of Lynn, Randolph, IN, just south of county road 875 south of 50 east. Many graves are unmarked. Church records show 227 deaths before 1868.
