Notes
Historical Note
Schaumburg, Cook, IL in the northwest of the state, became a refuge for German immigrants from the county in Germany where many of the citizens had originally lived. The majority were from Grafschaft Schaumburg which was then part of the state of Hesse-Kassel. Immigration spanning more than ninety years changed the makeup of the township. As an example, in 1840, 56% of the households were made up of citizens from the eastern United States and 28% were German born. By the 1850s, the population mix had settled to 28% "Yankee" and 48% German. By 1870, Schaumburg had become completely German.Immigration
According to the Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500-1900, Ernst Mittelbrink GUSEWELLE came to America in 1842 (port unknown) with his wife, five children and brother-in-law.Schaumburg-Lippe was a small state in Germany which is located in the present-day state of Lower Saxony with its capital at Buckeburg. Schaumburg-Lippe was a county until 1807 when it became a principality and joined the German Empire in 1871.
Could Henry LIP be Ernst GUSEWELLE's brother-in-law?
