It is not known whether Lucy actually had a first marriage but she had a son who carried the last name of Arms. She obtained her only known marriage bond in 1817, which read, "daughter of Edward Arms, deceased." She was probably born in Bedford County, Virginia and there are many cemeteries in that region bearing the name Arms on the headstones. Her husband did not adopt William as records indicate he identified himself as "guardian." Some records indicate she may have been born in 1790. On the census of 1850 she was living with her daughter, Sarah McCoy Priest and was shown as age 64 and born in Virginia. She was also in Sarah's home in 1860, age 73.
