Individual Details

Mary Priscilla Goff

(20 Dec 1849 - 13 Feb 1900)

John and Mary Goff Davenport owned the property at Sinking Creek and the cabin where Abraham Lincoln was born. They moved the cabin to another part of the property and used it as a chicken coop. Mary's niece, Fannie Meredith, and her children spent time on the farm there. They recalled drinking water from the Sinking Creek and relaxing under the Boundry Oak. In 1894 John and Mary sold the cabin to A. W. Dennett, who numbered and dismantled it. He took the cabin around the country by rail, presenting it at paid exhibitions.

The Lincoln Farm Association bought the property for preservation in 1905 for $300. The Goff descendants all came back to the farm on 9 Nov 1911 for the dedication by President William Howard Taft. They cooked food in open pits for all the people attending the ceremony.
