Catherine McDowell

Catherine Speer is listed in the old Intermant records of South Park cemetery, however a volunteer visited the cemetery for me in 2012 and was unable to find a headstone to photograph. He was able to find her in the cemetery records.
These notes are from material that Clara Bonner (granddaughter of William Speer) had at her home in Due West, S.C. Thear are now in the possession of a great granddaughter of Nettie Speer Bonner (Stella Thompson of Honea Path, S.C.
John Speer was born on a farm near Kinakinick, New Jersey March 29, 1780. When he was five years old his father moved to Maryland and settled on a farm where he continued to live intil his marriage which was in the month of October 1803.
Catherine McDowell was born in Ireland April 17, 1786. Her mother died when she was three weeks old. Her father emigrated to America in 1786 and arrived in Philadelphia when Catherine was three months old. She was taken by an old lady near Philadelphia and lived with her until her marriage. After her marriage to John Speer they settled on a farm in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania where most, if not all of the children were born. A total of 15 children, 9 girls and 6 sons.
John and Catherine moved to Indiana in 1847. John died in 1856 at the age of 75 and Catherine died in 1870 at the age of 84. They were Presbyterian.
